Different

Today the 'Different' quilts at the Art Quilts Around the World blog are unveiled. Here is mine - it is different because I have used a pink background fabric. As you know I hate pink and have never used it before in a quilt!

However, since my word for this year was Focus, I decided to use this challenge to make a quilt in my sports series, but using a colour I would never normally use. So here is the first female gymnast, on beam.

I am not very happy with this quilt - I feel that the design is unbalanced. Maybe I need to add another 'shadow' in the rigt top corner? It's so empty...

Would love to hear your comments!

Volgens mij moet je er ook niets meer aan doen. Hij is heel mooi en evenwichtig van opbouw. Ik vind juist dat er nu veel beweging inzit. Ik begin linksboven en mijn ogen dwalen vanzelf naar rechtsonder. Prima zo!

I'd add 3 small squares the same colours as the 3 beams.

Hi Linda,

I think I would cut some of the space above the top gymnast. The actual figures and bars feel balanced to me, it is just a bit long. I also might trim the bottom a bit. Just playing with how it looks on my computer.
BTW, I really like the pink!

Ha Linda
Als je deze quilt legt naast je andere sports-quilts dan zie ik een verschil. Deze quilt is eigenlijk te groot voor het beeld. En 't zit um volgens mij met name in de hoogte.

In a gym class or at a competition there is a lot of activity going on, many times several different contests being run at the same time. I think you could have done more with the background to suggest this - there's nothing inherently wrong with the pink although I don't personally like it much but I'm not a pink person either! Lots more figures, with more of them being cut off at the edge of the quilt - right now only one I think loses a little bit to the edge. Also I think your beautiful shapes would be much more alive if there were several sizes of the same shape along with the light vs dark ones.
