The reason for this is that I have closed my Blue Jacaranda shop on Etsy, after 12 1/2 years. As I am now finishing my Bachelor of Arts course and getting ready to start a higher research degree in September, I find I have no more time or energy to deal with questions about quilting patterns. It was fun while it lasted, but that era is now over.</p><p>I toyed with the idea of deleting this blog as well, but decided in the end to leave it as it is (but with a different name). I will occasionally post something when I've finished another pair of socks (or another creative project), but that won't be very often.<br /></p>Linda Robertushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18365513049100120011noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2741060306812957345.post-46824090973443732542024-01-23T18:31:00.000+10:002024-01-23T18:31:04.603+10:00Back from Japan<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXLvFN6-DMO7l-3UY3_ZNfggF4XqW-QCXYLK9fZCTezO7dRTkDIXkDPIyHDF0VXXldEnZDo8nplQHyyoFnDT2goUL3C9cMwKWPGA0YM2gvuj5w0rR9R1J3ffMYNXYhArbIShm1p4kmnfU9qBmWxhdDlVWU5dVmNIg7MAXQ6RVKvryjaYcNacRIgeJWe3j9/s2000/20240108_143711.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2000" data-original-width="1789" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXLvFN6-DMO7l-3UY3_ZNfggF4XqW-QCXYLK9fZCTezO7dRTkDIXkDPIyHDF0VXXldEnZDo8nplQHyyoFnDT2goUL3C9cMwKWPGA0YM2gvuj5w0rR9R1J3ffMYNXYhArbIShm1p4kmnfU9qBmWxhdDlVWU5dVmNIg7MAXQ6RVKvryjaYcNacRIgeJWe3j9/w358-h400/20240108_143711.jpg" width="358" /></a></div><br /> The photo above was taken in Japan, where I finished two pairs of socks (left and middle)! It's very quiet on this blog - I'm still spending most of my free time studying, rather than creating. I hope to complete my Bachelor of Arts in June next year! But I do still knit socks. I'm planning to have a pair for each of my three boys as a Christmas present - for we will be in Japan on Christmas Day, where warm socks will definitely be needed!</p><p>I'm knitting one sock of a pair at a time and then moving on to the next pair to keep myself entertained. The blue sock is the <a href="https://lindarobertus.blogspot.com/2022/12/socks-again.html" target="_blank">Rustling Reed pattern</a>, which I am enjoying much more this time. The other two are both the trusty Sail Away pattern - I know it by heart now!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb2uXcsuX3p6rj-kAZ_03dUE1LX80hpRGpABIZR7dByASZCSA30mhGohBnACjlqxUU0MI0Zl63EiEkcX98sCh_2RpQot0Sp1nSqmVu3LW2kfDghiSKBAo5bwlrxZgbCVhKJAgI_1W-Ii8CLuGak_ge9Wlxi7WG9QNBjNoxMiBjuZGIicY87qsJTW1kajV6/s2000/IMG_20230902_131636_398.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2000" data-original-width="2000" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb2uXcsuX3p6rj-kAZ_03dUE1LX80hpRGpABIZR7dByASZCSA30mhGohBnACjlqxUU0MI0Zl63EiEkcX98sCh_2RpQot0Sp1nSqmVu3LW2kfDghiSKBAo5bwlrxZgbCVhKJAgI_1W-Ii8CLuGak_ge9Wlxi7WG9QNBjNoxMiBjuZGIicY87qsJTW1kajV6/w400-h400/IMG_20230902_131636_398.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>I made another pair of Sail Away socks in DK yarn earlier this year, as a birthday present for a friend. The yarn is Peacock from Stray Cat Socks in New Zealand, that I bought <a href="https://lindarobertus.blogspot.com/2017/07/more-socks-and-granny-square.html" target="_blank">back in 2017</a>!</p><p>When this sock is finished I may start on the second Florentine Lace sock, and alternate working on these two pairs. I've started a Bachelor of Arts at <a href="https://www.open.edu.au/" target="_blank">Open Universities Australia</a>, majoring in History and Art History. I'm so enjoying it! I've just finished an essay for my Australian Art course about Grace Cossington Smith, one of the early Australian Modernists. I had never heard of her, but now I adore her work! Her painting <i>Trees </i>(c. 1927), pictured above, is probably my favourite, but there are so many other painting and drawings that I love. Like this one, <i>Things on an iron tray on the floor </i>(c. 1928):<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFau-9mTATAypAm4JoPjnkSp0Vv7lDLO47M0ldRbn-E4WC_lJBwRRHoHOviJcL8MnBSRrmEVgDQAMlLAhpeiETkBpYlZSgs3hBUfD_mm_nGhQJOQF_Rjwplg0n_-hKFJbP1utd_RasCbIHQenEhNafzusSNfuTZj99TnmAmjPPVr-UaavWtKutxFfZ4g/s777/OA9.1967%23%23S.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="777" height="309" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFau-9mTATAypAm4JoPjnkSp0Vv7lDLO47M0ldRbn-E4WC_lJBwRRHoHOviJcL8MnBSRrmEVgDQAMlLAhpeiETkBpYlZSgs3hBUfD_mm_nGhQJOQF_Rjwplg0n_-hKFJbP1utd_RasCbIHQenEhNafzusSNfuTZj99TnmAmjPPVr-UaavWtKutxFfZ4g/w400-h309/OA9.1967%23%23S.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>Or this drawing, part of her magnificent Sydney Harbour Bridge series, <i>Great white ship at Circular Quai</i> (1931-1932):</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_OUUd6aAfRyz4WzrAU4Irg5ryTnfsvHU3CjzK-kV4DY058SuS5gLVIz0PqF-Udz8FU-NGTi2vwxxtKtARxqIrQnLNShYFhqBEekULTjeRlX_uAUXcU2TnMFWPdSgzZVUbFC-xUQ9XP0m3sgBiBpJQRUxIZcYuq4xA9AqohrUAC8nrZpCrvFabnCX6pQ/s600/5e6cfa1dfca4aa6612b4367d25452d20.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="450" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_OUUd6aAfRyz4WzrAU4Irg5ryTnfsvHU3CjzK-kV4DY058SuS5gLVIz0PqF-Udz8FU-NGTi2vwxxtKtARxqIrQnLNShYFhqBEekULTjeRlX_uAUXcU2TnMFWPdSgzZVUbFC-xUQ9XP0m3sgBiBpJQRUxIZcYuq4xA9AqohrUAC8nrZpCrvFabnCX6pQ/w300-h400/5e6cfa1dfca4aa6612b4367d25452d20.jpg" width="300" /></a></div> You can read more about her <a href="https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/collection/artists/cossington-smith-grace/" target="_blank">here</a> - and a Google Image search will bring up dozens of beautiful artworks.
